The Eva May Foundation

The Eva May Foundation was founded by Glenys Davis in 2012 to raise funds for local causes and humanitarian aid projects. Glenys’ Nan helped poor families in the Mulwala area during the Great Depression and she uses her Nan’s inspiration today to drive her work in the local community.

Glenys was born and grew up in Mulwala and attended the Mulwala Public School. Her parents and grandparents come from Mulwala. Glenys is a wonderful mother and grandmother; she is an inspiration to many through her joy of giving.

Many volunteers come weekly to help sort and iron clothing, unpack donations, assist in selling goods and help with cleaning and other duties as required. These volunteers see the good work being done through this Foundation and it helps to give them a sense of purpose and enjoyment in helping to transform the generosity of the local community into funds for their own community and others.

Citizen of the Year 2019

As a little girl in Mulwala, Glenys Nicholson had a passion about caring for people and that attribute has followed her for the next 60-plus years. Her lifelong urge to care for others earned her two awards in 2019 – The Australia Day Federation Council Citizen of the Year and Mulwala Local Achiever.

Glenys thanked all the volunteers at the Op Shop, her loving parents Joan and ‘Joker’ Nicholson “who played over 300 games for the great Maroon and Golds, now the Lions and my greatest supporter, my late husband, Ian ‘Woofa’ Davis”.

Every day at the Eva May Op Shop is a blessing with the friendly locals, tourists and dedicated and hard-working volunteers.

Mission Statement

At our foundation, we are dedicated to transforming communities through the power of collective action. Our founder, Glenys Davis, inspires us to work towards creating a brighter future for those in need through hard work, perseverance, and compassion. We strive to support Glenys by receiving donated goods from the local community, which we sell in our opportunity shop, and then use the proceeds to support local community projects, as well as education initiatives in Myanmar and Africa. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to reach their full potential, and to create positive change through our collective efforts.

Our Core Values

Our Foundation is built on a set of core values that guide everything we do. These values are:

  • Compassion: We approach our work with empathy and a deep concern for the well-being of others.

  • Collaboration: We believe that collective action is the most powerful force for positive change.

  • Integrity: We are committed to honesty, transparency, and accountability in all our dealings.

  • Respect: We treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances.

  • Innovation: We are always looking for new and creative ways to make a difference in the lives of those we assist.

  • Perseverance: We are dedicated to our mission and will not give up until we have achieved our goals.

Our Philosophy

Even though the Eva May Foundation is a modest-sized charity organisation, our philosophy is to make a positive impact on communities in need, both locally and globally, by transforming donated goods into meaningful opportunities for individuals and groups. The Foundation believes in the power of collective action, and that small acts of kindness and generosity can have a profound impact on people’s lives.
