Mulwala Opportunity Shop
Our shop relies on donations from residents in the local community. Donated goods, such as clothing and bric-a-brac, are then sold to tourists and locals. Profits from the shop are distributed to the community through different channels – local groups, larger charities and individuals who have had a genuine need identified by community members or organisations.
The shop has become a ‘place to visit’ for tourists looking for bargains. In addition, it has become a popular stop-off for ‘grey nomads’ who travel around Australia each year; they provide a valuable boost for our shop and the economy of Mulwala and Yarrawonga.
Help us return and earn
John is one of our respected volunteers, and in addition to his normal activities around the Op Shop, he manages our Return and Earn program which he set up towards the end of 2022. This program has already generated valuable cash for our local funding efforts. One recent example of funding through this program is the new conveyor toaster we purchased for the Yarrawonga P-12 school.
John has arranged with several individuals and businesses to pick up their eligible cans and bottles for recycling. Return and Earn is becoming a popular way for locals to have their empty cans and bottles picked up, knowing they are helping the environment and, importantly, raising money for our Foundation to fund community projects.
Local businesses or people who have agreed to donate their can and bottle recyclables to the Eva May Foundation Op Shop can organise with John for a regular pickup or ring him when they have a good collection of cans and bottles (after a party, maybe!).
