Hospital Bed – Warrina Hostel (Yarrawonga Health)

Hospital beds are expensive, so the Eva May Foundation was pleased to be able to fund a bed at Warrina Hostel in Yarrawonga. Jan Williams and Alistair McLellan from the Foundation made a visit organised by Jo Spence and Liz Seeliger on behalf of Helping Hands to check out the new bed.

Warrina is dedicated to the provision of hostel-style accommodation where residents enjoy full access to security and care while retaining as much of their independence as possible.  Thanks to Jeanie from Warrina for showing us around and resident Betty for allowing us to inspect her bed.

All-abilities carousel – Purtle Park

The Eva May Foundation donated $10,000 to finalise funding for the all-abilities carousel which was completed and ready for use at Purtle Park Mulwala in June  2022.

People of all abilities can access the carousel with a level entry design to cater for wheelchair entry, a seat for users who cannot or do not wish to stand on the ride. The carousel is surrounded by a soft non-slip rubber surface (see photo above left).

The centre photo shows the entry to Purtle Park with a couple of metal Pelicans designed and crafted by talented local artist Matthew Davis, eldest son of Glenys Davis and the late Ian “Woofa” Davis.

The photo at right above shows Helen and Robert “Possum” Purtle OAM at Purtle Park around the time of the official opening by Justin Clancy MP, Member for Albury. The magnificent adventure park would not be here if not for the hard work of the Purtle family. The Eva May Foundation is proud to be associated with the Purtle family and the Mulwala Progress Association, for which Rob Purtle is President.

Allawah Special Care Hostel – Yarrawonga

The True Door project was recently unveiled at Allawah. True Door was conceived, planned and organised by Helping Hands (a subcommittee of Yarrawonga Health). The Eva May Foundation provided all the funding to enable the delivery of this project (28 doors in total).

True Doors are custom decals featuring real door photos that enhance the lives of people with dementia. The residents choose their door design and this helps them remember where their room is located.

By creating a more homely atmosphere, True Doors helps reduce confusion and provides a sense of pride, and improves memory and orientation.

Prior to the Eva May Foundation purchasing a new conveyor toaster for their breakfast program, Michelle Kloss and her volunteers had been struggling for some time using several domestic toasters to cook enough toast for all children attending breakfast. Eva May Foundation purchased the toaster and delivered it to the school. Glenys Davis and Alistair McLellan were pleased to be invited to the first breakfast with the new toaster. It worked a treat and as you can see from the photo, it cooked a pile of toast – enough for all students attending the breakfast. After breakfast Michelle showed us some excellent programs introduced by………………… See below some photos etc. etc.
